Movie 325- Family/Kids Movie- Darby O'Gill and the Little People

Directed by Robert Stevenson
Starring Albert Sharpe
             Janet Munro
             Sean Connery
             Jimmy O'Dea
             Estelle Winwood

Indeed I would. You know, someone beat me over the head that night, and I thought it was the little people. But when I spoke to King Brian about it, he said that you should take the consequences.

Irishman Darby O'Gill finds himself face to face with magical little people -- leprechauns. One of O'Gill's tall tales comes true when he captures the King of the Leprechauns, who must grant him three wishes. But all the wishes ultimately backfire, with comical results.

This is my favorite Sean Connery movie, it's a fun movie, I remember when I first saw it being really fascinated with the leprechauns.  The cast and story are a lot of fun.

Movie 324- Fantasy/Drama - The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part One

Directed by Bill Condon
Starring Kristen Stewart
              Robert Pattinson
              Taylor Lautner
              Billy Burke
              Michael Sheen
              Anna Kendrick

No measure of time with you will be long enough. But we'll start with forever.

The Quileute and the Volturi close in on expecting parents Edward and Bella, whose unborn child poses different threats to the wolf pack and vampire coven.

Wow, what a disappointment, but really I wasn't expecting much to begin with, but what I saw was worse than I imagined.  It's pretty clear to me that the quality of the acting isn't that important to them, since most of the actors don't seem to be doing much.  There are a few actors who clearly stand out, namely Billy Burke, who plays Bella's father, and Anna Kendrick.  There was so much laughter during parts of the movie clearly not meant to be humorous.  My "favorite" part was when Edward revealed to Bella that he used to kill bad guys, which the first thing that came to my mind was "Oh he's just like Dexter," however the way they shot this to me it wasn't really clear that these were "killers" he was killing, he was the one that seemed suspicious.  I also thought it was funny to see Dexter's brother Brian show up at the wedding.  And of course there is the cameo of Stephanie Meyers, who like someone mentioned on IMDB, looked a bit like a stalker.  I'm so glad that JK Rowling never popped up in any of the Harry Potter movies.  This movie was way too long, the wedding dragged on and on, and the honeymoon seemed to last as long as they were supposedly gone for, as Michelle said after the movie.  It could have been cut down quite a bit.  As I'm sure you can tell I didn't care for the movie, and think it's the worst of the series so far.  One down one to go.

Movie 323- Family/Kids Movies- Mother Goose Rock 'N Rhyme

Directed by Jeff Stein
Starring Shelley Duvall
              Dan Gilroy
              Jean Stapleton
              Little Richard
              Paul Simon
              Bobby Brown

Well I am constantly the one who if forced to tumble down the hill following after you! Why can't it be Jill's turn to break her crown, and you come tumbling after for a change, huh!
There's a crisis in Rhymeland! All the Rhymies (the characters from Nursery Rhymes) are disappearing! Gordon Goose, son of Mother Goose, and Little Bo Peep set off across Rhymeland to find their missing friends.

I remember the first time I saw this on the Disney Channel, this was when the Disney Channel had good diverse programming.  This movie is really funny to watch now, it's really over the top, but it's such a blast from the past which makes it awesome.  I love the mixed cast, you've got everyone from Little Richard to Gary Shandling and Woody Harrelson.  Funny story with a fun cast.

Movie 322- Family/Kids Movies- Charlotte's Web

Directed by Charles A. Nichols and Iwao Takamoto
Starring Debbie Reynolds
              Paul Lynde
              Henry Gibson
              Agnes Moorehead

The goose was right, this fair is rat's paradise. Bye-bye, my humble Wilbur. Fare thee well Charlotte, you old schemer. This will be a night to remember!

When Wilbur is sold to a farmer and finds out that he will eventually be killed for food, Charlotte convinces the farmer that Wilbur is a very special pig.

I remember watching this movie so many time when I was younger, the songs are great, and the cast is one of the best.  Debbie Reynolds is great, and Paul Lynde is really funny.  My favorite song is still "A Fair is a Veritable Schmorgasboard-orgasboard-orgasboard", it's really funny.  It's a really great adaption of the book.

Movie 321- Family/Kids Movies- Nim's Island

Directed by Jennifer Flackett and Mark Levin
Starring Jodie Foster
             Gerard Butler
             Abigail Breslin

Nobody invades my island and gets away with it.

When the young island-dwelling Nim loses contact with her scientist father who's lost at sea, she reaches out to her favorite author for help. Problem is, the writer -- of adventure stories, no less -- is a recluse who hasn't left her house in years. Can the agoraphobic author summon the same courage she's instilled in the hero of her novels in time to rescue her biggest fan?

This is a really cute movie.  The cast is great and the story is great.  Jodie Foster is really funny and Abigail Breslin and Gerard Butler were great together.  My favorite parts are with Jodie Foster in her house.

Movie 320- Family/Kids Movies- Poor Little Rich Girl

Directed by Irving Cummings
Starring Shirley Temple
              Alice Faye
              Gloria Stuart
              Jack Haley
I used to live in an orphanage, but they were mean to me, awfully mean, and now I'm on a vacation to see new faces. Your face doesn't look very new.
The daughter of a wealthy businessman becomes lost in the city while traveling to a new school, and is taken in by a pair of down-on-their-luck performers.

This is my favorite of the Shirley Temple movies, I like the story, the characters, and the songs.  It kind of reminds me of the movie Baby's Day Out.  One of my favorite parts was when Shirley Temple is having dinner with the organ grinder and his family, and when she sneezes she is surprised she isn't sent right to bed like she is at her own house.  This is a really cute movie.

Movie 319- Family/Kids Movies- The Little Colonel

Directed by David Butler
Starring Shirley Temple
              Lionel Barrymore
              Evelyn Venable
              John Lodge
              Bill "Bojangles" Robinson
              Hattie McDaniel

You're a bad man to make my mama cry!
When a Southern belle married a Yankee, her father, a former Confederate colonel, promptly disowned her. Now, years, later, the couple's only daughter visits the family plantation to meet her grandfather and heal old wounds. But will her spunk and a charming tap dance with the family butler be enough to win the crusty old man's heart?

The cast was good in this movie, Shirley was as cute as she always is.  I really liked the costumes.  I thought the one thing that was kind of confusing was that she called her father Papa Jack, it almost is the kind of thing I would think a young child would call a step father, I think that they could have explained that a bit more.  The tap dancing scene is the highlight of the movie.

Movie 318- Family/Kids Movies- Baby Take a Bow

Directed by Harry Lachman
Starring Shirley Temple
              James Dunn
              Claire Trevor

I should wait and eat a cold breakfast? Not for any husband. Sometimes I get so mad I could give him poison.
Trying to stay on the straight and narrow, sunny Shirley's father, Eddie, gets a chauffeur job. But when a necklace disappears, Eddie and his pal are immediately suspected. It's up to little Shirley to find the jewels and prove her pop's innocence.

This was a really cute movie, the cast was great and Shirley Temple was great.  There were a lot of funny scenes, I like the part when the detective is searching the house for the pearls, and when mother and daughter are exercising to the radio program.

Movie 317- Family/Kids Movies- James and the Giant Peach

Directed by Henry Selick
Starring Susan Sarandon
              Paul Terry
              Richard Dreyfuss
              Joanna Lumley
              Miriam Margolyes
              Pete Postlethwaite
             David Thewlis
             Simon Callow

Why don't skeletons play music in church? Because they got no organs.

When young orphan James spills a magic bag of crocodile tongues, he finds himself in possession of the world's biggest peach -- a massive fruit that rolls, floats and flies him away to strange and distant lands. But that's not half as odd as the inhabitants James finds living inside its juicy flesh: a talking centipede, a ladybug and a spider who want to help the boy escape his wicked aunts.

I really like the stories of Roald Dahl, this was one of my favorite stories, it's been years since I've seen this movie so it was like I hadn't see it before.  I like how they kept close to the book. The cast is good and the songs are fun, except for the Randy Newman song at the end, why did they do that?  I liked the cameo of Jack from A Nightmare Before Christmas

Movie 316- Family/Kids Movies- Bright Eyes

Directed by David Butler
Starring Shirley Temple
              James Dunn
              Jane Darwell
              Theodor von Eltz

Now, darling, remember what the psychoanalyst said. The child mind must never be coerced. One must use reason and persuasion. Now, dear, practice your piano and Mama will buy you something nice.

The little darling of a group of aviators, Shirley splits her time between her pilot godfather and her long-suffering mother, housemaid for a selfish, wealthy family. When an accident leaves Shirley orphaned, Loop sets out to adopt Shirley but soon learns he's not the only one determined to keep her.

I haven't seen a Shirley Temple movie in years and after watching this one I want to watch more, she was just so cute and even though the movies follow a similar formula, they are just so charming that you just forget everything else.  This movie features the song "On the Good Ship Lollipop," which is a cute number.  I like the cranky old man in this he's funny and the family that she stays with are awful.  This is one of my favorite movies she did, I think I will be watching a couple others in the next few days.

Movie 315- Family/Kids Movie- The Secret Garden

Directed by Katrina Murray
Starring Sarah Hollis Andrews
              John Woodnutt
              David Patterson
              Jacqueline Hoyle

Sent to live with her rich Uncle Archibald after her parents' unexpected death, young Mary Lennox is looking for happiness. But inside her uncle's dreary house, she finds much misery and mourning -- until a magical outdoor discovery changes everything.

This was pretty faithful version of the story, the acting was good and the characters came to life.  This is one of my favorite children's stories,  and this movie didn't disappoint.

Movie 314- Family/Kids Movies- Toy Story 3

Directed by Lee Unkrich
Starring Tom Hanks
              Tim Allen
              Joan Cusack
              Ned Beatty
              Michael Keaton

Hogtie the mailman! We gotta get you home before Andy leaves tomorrow!

The toys are mistakenly delivered to a day-care center instead of the attic right before Andy leaves for college, and it's up to Woody to convince the other toys that they weren't abandoned and to return home.

I thought this one was better than Toy Story 2, I enjoyed it, but the one thing that really gets on my nerves about all the Toy Story movies is the music, I can't stand Randy Newman.  I thought that Michael Keaton was great as Ken and all the scenes with him an Barbie were so funny.  The ending was sad, but it was a happy sad.  It was a great way to wrap up the story.  It's hard to believe it was 15 years ago that the first one was released.

Movie 313- Family/Kids Movies- The Secret of Moonacre

Directed by Gabor Csupo
Starring Dakota Blue Richards
              Tim Curry
              Ioan Gruffudd
              Natascha McElhone
              Juliet Stevenson

How can I possibly go to live in the country? It's full of... the countryside.

When the fantastic tale in her magical storybook comes to life, young Maria Merryweather finds herself trapped in an ancient feud between her family and a rival clan. Now, she must locate the source of their quarrel: a group of magic pearls.

This was a cute movie, it kind of reminded me of Stardust, in a way.  I thought the cast was very good and the story interesting.  I liked the costumes, they were all really pretty.  The Nanny and the Cook were my favorite characters, they brought a lot of humor to the story.

Movie 312- Family/Kids Movies- Annie

Directed by John Huston
Starring Aileen Quinn
              Carol Burnett
              Albert Finney
              Tim Curry

We love you, Miss Hannigan.
Annie is chosen to stay for one week with the famous billionaire "Daddy" Warbucks. One week turns into many, and the only person standing in the way of Annie's fun is Miss Hannigan, the gin-soaked ruler of the orphanage.

I remember this was one of my favorite movies, I still have my Annie music box, I think I used to sing the songs all the time.  Watching it now it's still a lot of fun.  The songs are catchy and the cast is great, especially Carol Burnett.

Movie 311- Family/Kids Movies- A Bear Called Winnie

Directed by John Kent Harrison
Starring Michael Fassbender
              Gil Bellows
              David Suchet

Based on the true story that inspired A.A. Milne's classic Winnie the Pooh books, this heartwarming tale follows the adventures of a Canadian soldier who leaves Winnipeg to fight in World War I. Along the way, he adopts a bear cub and names her Winnie, after his hometown. When he's called to duty, the soldier donates Winnie to the London Zoo, where the cuddly creature becomes a big hit.

I loved this movie, it was really cute and touching.  The cast was great and the story was good.  Michael Fassbender is great in this and all his scenes with the bear are so cute.  My favorite part was when they were trying to get the bear to stay in the woods before they went to England for the war, and it kept finding them.  It had a sad happy ending when the bear was brought to the hospital and he saw how big she grew.  I've always been a fan of Winnie the Pooh so I found this movie really interesting and I defiantly would watch it again.

Movie 310- Family/Kids Movies- Finding Nemo

Directed by Andrew Stanton and Lee Unkrich
Starring Albert Brooks
              Ellen DeGeneres
              Alexander Gould
              Willem Dafoe

Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming. What do we do? We swim, swim.

Marlin and Dory, search high and low for Marlin's missing son, Nemo.

This is a great movie, the cast is great, it's funny and touching.  I love Ellen DeGeneres in this movie.  It's got a great story and is a lot of fun.

Movie 309- Family/Kids Movies- Alice in Wonderland

Directed by Tim Burton
Starring Mia Wasikowska
              Johnny Depp
              Stephen Fry
              Helena Bonham Carter
              Anne Hathaway
              Alan Rickman
              Matt Lucas
              Crispin Glover

I try to believe in as many as six impossible things before breakfast. Count them, Alice.

A 19-year-old Alice journeys through Underland, where she experiences strange ordeals and encounters peculiar characters, including the vaporous Cheshire Cat, the Mad Hatter and the sadistic Red Queen.

I like this version of Alice in Wonderland, it's got a great cast.  I really like what they did with the story, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Mia Wasikowska are great.  All the effects are amazing and it's even better in 3D, the costumes are beautiful.  I really love the colors in the movie.

Movie 308- Family/Kids Movies- The Great Mouse Detective

Directed by
Starring Vincent Price
              Barrie Ingham
              Val Bettin

Thank you, thank you. But it hasn't all been champagne and caviar. I've had my share of adversity, thanks to that miserable, second-rate detective, Basil of Baker Street!
Evil villains and abducted geniuses abound in this animated Disney adventure -- the first to make extensive use of computer technology. Based on the novel Basil of Baker Street, the film follows crime-fighting mouse Basil and his sidekick, Dr. Dawson, as they help a toymaker who's been kidnapped by the evil Ratigan. The duo traps Ratigan, but are they in time to stop his evil plan?

This is a great forgotten Disney movie, it's one of my favorites.  It's a great homage to Sherlock Holmes.  Vincent Price is so good in this it's one of my favorite movies that he's in.  The songs are fun, and the story is great.  If you haven't seen this one before I really recommend it.

Movie 307- Family/Kids Movies- Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

Directed by Mel Stuart
Starring Gene Wilder
              Peter Ostrum
              Jack Albertson

Don't talk to me about contracts, Wonka, I use them myself. They're strictly for suckers.

Eccentric candy man Willy Wonka prompts a worldwide frenzy when he announces that golden tickets hidden inside five of his delicious candy bars will admit their lucky holders into his top-secret confectionary. But does Wonka have an agenda hidden amid a world of Oompa Loompas and chocolate rivers?

I could watch this movie everyday, I love it, I can quote the movie as the scene is playing.  I love the songs and just have a great time watching it.  Everyone in it does a great job, I wish that they had done a sequel.

Movie 306- Family/Kids Movies- Swiss Family Robinson

Directed by
Starring Tommy Kirk
              Dorothy McGuire
              John Mills
              James MacArthur

The world is full of nice, ordinary little people who live in nice, ordinary little houses on the ground. But didn't you ever dream of a house up on a tree top?
After being shipwrecked, the Robinson family is marooned on an island inhabited only by an impressive array of wildlife. In true pioneer spirit, they quickly make themselves at home but soon face a danger even greater than nature: dastardly pirates.

It's been years since I've seen this movie and it brought back a lot of memories from when I was younger.  I always liked this movie mainly because of the tree house they built.  It's a fun movie, with a lot of action, the pirate fight at the end is a lot of fun.

Movie 305- Family/Kids Movies- The Last Unicorn

Directed by Jules Bass and Arthur Rankin Jr.
Starring Mia Farrow
              Alan Arkin
              Jeff Bridges
              Christopher Lee
              Angela Landsbury
I have forgotten that men cannot see Unicorns. If men no longer know what they're looking at, there may be other unicorns in the world yet, unknown, and glad of it.
A unicorn who believes she's the last of her species and is searching high and low for someone just like her. All the while, she must avoid the evil Red Bull.  He's believed to be the one who killed off the rest of her kind. Along the way, she's disregarded and harassed, but finally finds solace in a magician and a knight named Prince Lir.

When I was younger I loved everything that had to do with unicorns, so this was my favorite movie, and it still is my favorite movie, it's got great songs, and the actors are great.  The story is wonderful, it's funny and a bit scary, but it's a true fairy tale and it's got a great ending.

Movie 304- Horror- Halloween

Directed by John Capenter
Starring Jamie Lee Curtis
              Donald Pleasence
              Nancy Kyes
              Charles Cyphers

But I saw the boogeyman! I saw him!
Michael Myers, who just escaped from a mental hospital, goes on a murderous rampage on Halloween night after returning to his hometown of Haddonfield, Ill. Inexplicably, his prize victim seems to be babysitter Laurie. Psychiatrist Dr. Loomis is on a mission to stop Myers.
This is the a great movie to watch on Halloween, unfortunately I didn't get to watch it on Halloween due to the fact that I had to go to the dentist and have a tooth pulled.  But I really like this movie, Jamie Lee Curtis is great in this and unlike the recent remake I think this one is creepier.

Movie 303- Drama- Anonymous

Directed by Roland Emmerich
Starring Rhys Ifans
              Vanessa Redgrave
              David Thewlis
              Joely Richardson
              Jamie Campbell Bower

How could you possibly love the moon when you have first seen the sun?
A political thriller advancing the theory that it was in fact Edward De Vere, Earl of Oxford who penned Shakespeare's plays; set against the backdrop of the succession of Queen Elizabeth I, and the Essex Rebellion against her.

This was an interesting movie, but I don't buy the theory behind it.  It was well acted and it really was a good movie and I like how they used mother and daughter to play Queen Elizabeth young and old.

Movie 302- Horror- Bram Stoker's Dracula

Directed by Francis Ford Coppola
Starring Gary Oldman
              Winona Ryder
               Anthony Hopkins
               Keanu Reeves
               Cary Elwes
               Richard E. Grant
               Sadie Frost
               Billy Campbell

I am the monster that breathing men would kill. I am Dracula.

When Dracula leaves the captive Jonathan Harker  and Transylvania for London in search of Mina Harker -- the spitting image of Dracula's long-dead wife, Elisabeta  -- obsessed vampire hunter Dr. Van Helsing sets out to end the madness.

This is my favorite Dracula movie, it's really the closest version of the book to date.  I like the changes they made to the story so Dracula became more of a character in this version, I like that they borrowed the plot of Mina looking like his dead wife, from Dark Shadows.  The weakest point of the movie is Keanu Reeves, but really I can look past that, and really he isn't in it that much.  I think Gary Oldman is great in this, and besides Christopher Lee I think he's one of the best Dracula's.

Movie 301- Horror- Trick 'r Treat

Directed by Michael Dougherty's
Starring Anna Paquin
              Leslie Bibb
              Dylan Baker
              Brian Cox

Wait. There's another tradition.  Always check your candy.

Halloween's usually boisterous traditions turn deadly, and everyone in a small town tries to survive one night in pure hell … but who will still be alive in the morning? Several stories weave together, including a loner fending off a demented trick-or-treater's attacks; kids uncovering a freaky secret; a school principal -- who moonlights as a serial killer -- poisoning his candy; and more.

This is a fun movie, it reminds me of the old anthology movies, especially Tales from the Crypt.  The stories in this movie are all funny and creepy.  The cast is great and the stories are interesting.  I like how they tie everything together, and how all the stories and characters interconnect with each other.

Movie 300- Horror- Paranormal Activity 2

Directed by Tod Williams
Starring Katie Featherston
              Micah Sloat
              Molly Ephraim

I don't know if the house is haunted, but I hope it is.

After experiencing what they think are a series of "break-ins", a family sets up security cameras around their home, only to realize that the events unfolding before them are more sinister than they seem.

I didn't really care for the first movie, I didn't think there was much to the story, but I thought this one was better, and it made the first one make more sense as to what was going on.  I thought the story was interesting and while it was suspenseful I didn't find it scary.  I look forward to seeing the third one.
